Liv loved When you wish upon a star (see below) - she thought it was lovely when we were in Florida to see very sick children having so much fun with their families. When those children are gone their families will have such happy memories to hold on to forever.

For this reason the charity has been chosen should you wish to make a donation. The money will be used to help send other families which often include trips to swim with dolphins, something Olivia did in 2003 (see picture) and a year before in Portugal.

(In addition, a proportion of those funds will be passed to Newport Free Grammar School to enable children who might not otherwise be able to go, to enjoy out-of-school activities.  Livvy had expressed her feelings for friends who were unable to join in trips).

If you do make a donation, please indicate that it is on behalf of Olivia Bazlinton.

You Too Can Make A Dream Come True

All over the UK children are bravely suffering from life threatening illnesses and many of them have just one wish. These wishes are varied, often expensive and many families are not able to afford to make these wishes come true. However, with the help of our supporters of When You Wish Upon A Star, over 12,000 wishes have already been granted in the UK to children who are suffering from debilitating conditions.

For the last 15 years When You Wish Upon a Star has strived to put a smile on the faces of very poorly children by making their wishes come true. The vision of When You Wish Upon A Star is to never turn down the wish of a dying child. To make that vision a reality we rely overwhelmingly on the generosity and hard work of our supporters. Quite simply, the more money we receive, the more wishes we could have the pleasure of granting.

Making Wishes Come True

Every year, When You Wish Upon A Star, receive hundreds of letters and requests from parents all over the country asking them to grant the wishes of their courageous children. The charity strives to grant as many wishes as possible and would love to be able to grant every single wish, but for this to happen, When You Wish Upon A Star needs the help and support of people like you.

Making wishes come true is not only beneficial to the poorly child, but also to the parents, as they see their child’s' tears transformed into laughter and frowns turned upside down. The charity feels that it is of the utmost importance to involve the parents and siblings in the special day of the very special child.

Sometimes the children have to suffer gruelling treatments and long stays in hospital away from their homes, friends, pets and toys and often looking forward to a treat gives the child a boost as they have something to look forward to.

Of course when the day finally arrives for their wish to be granted, the children always have a little glint of excitement in their eyes, and seeing their responses is magical, heart warming and extremely memorable.

Sometimes children want to meet their footballing heroes, their favourite popstar, or a well-known celebrity, at other times, their dream is to swim with dolphins, or meet Mickey Mouse or even drive a formula one car. When You Wish Upon A Star strives to make all of these wishes come true.

When you wish Upon A Star is famous throughout the UK for its yearly visits to Lapland, and Santa Claus himself is even one of the charities patrons! The highlight of each year is to charter three planes to take 300 very poorly children to Lapland to meet Santa Claus.

The children ride on skidoos, snowmobiles, one horse open sleighs, quad bikes, go skiing and sledging, have a husky ride as well as enjoying a traditional sleigh ride with Rudolph and Santa through Lapland's winter wonderland. A whole host of celebrities have taken part in the dream visits to Lapland to make the children’s' time with Father Christmas extra-special.

It becomes very emotional when Santa meets the children, as they often forget about their pain and suffering for this one special day. No one could fail to be moved as Santa listens intently to the hopes and dreams of the children who are obviously in awe of this giant man who secretly visits them every year, eating their mince pies and quickly disappearing back up the chimney.

In order for this When You Wish Upon A Star to carry on granting the wishes of poorly children everywhere, we are reliant on the generosity of people just like you. With your help, we can make these children's wishes a reality.

When You Wish Upon A Star endeavours to provide this unique experience for as many of these brave and courageous children as possible. For the parents of a very poorly child, the need to make this wish come true is of the utmost importance.

The saddest part of the year is when one of the children dies. If you could have been there to see their joy and happiness during the special moment we were able to arrange for them, then you will understand why our work must continue.

There are many ways in which you can help bring a smile to the face of a suffering child. These include:

• Making a donation via cheque, CAF voucher or standing order
• Organising a fundraising event
• Sponsoring a wish
